Gaining weight and becoming obese, morbidly obese or even simply overweight with certain medical illnesses has created an epidemic with MAJOR HEALTH IMPLICATIONS not only in the United States, but worldwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than two thirds of the US population is overweight, and nearly one third are obese or morbidly obese.

Obesity is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30-39 and morbid obesity begins when this reaches 40. The higher your BMI, the greater your risk for diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, heart disease, certain cancers, infertility, high risk pregnancies, joint problems and others. If you are even just overweight (BMI > 27), and have one or more of the above illnesses, your risk for early death increases, and quality of life suffers greatly. These risks increase as your BMI rises.

Lehigh Valley Weight Loss combines diet, physical activity, behavioral therapy and, if indicated and desired, medication and or surgery. We begin our evaluation for overweight or obese individuals with a thorough history, physical exam, blood work and other diagnostic tools. Your past and present diet, physical activity, lab work, medications, patterns of weight gain and loss, eating habits and medical problems is an important part of this evaluation and will be reviewed during your initial visit.

A customized dietary plan, behavioral therapies, lifestyle modifications, often including medication, will be designed for your individualized weight loss strategy. We will monitor you closely every 4 weeks or more often if necessary. Although our patients often lose a significant amount of weight in a short time, our goal for you is not a ‘quick fix’ but a lifetime correction for a happier healthier you!
